Ingredient

bentonite

Other names & variants: Kaolin/bentonite clay

What it is

Two of the most common cosmetic clays — kaolin (a fine, gentle silicate mineral, safe even for sensitive/dry skin) and bentonite (a coarser, more absorbent volcanic-ash clay), both used in masks and cleansers to draw out excess oil and impurities.

How it works

Adsorbs excess surface oil/sebum via ionic charge and high porosity; a real PMC-hosted 75-subject, 4-week trial with objective instrumentation (Sebumeter/Vapometer/Corneometer) confirmed sebum and comedone reduction — though its primary endpoints were acne/oiliness, not texture directly, so the texture benefit here is a defensible mechanistic inference, not a directly-measured trial outcome
